Kjeragbolten Trek

A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to be visited by a couple of family members who were willing enough to follow us across mountain ranges on an ill-prepared adventure to one of the most epic landmarks Norway has to offer... KJERAGBOLTEN!

We started with a drive through some scenic landscapes across Sola Beach, Gjestal, & Byrkjedal on the way to Sirdal for a night's stay before our trek.

The next day began with nearly zero visibility, which probably turned out to be a good thing since it shielded us from understanding exactly what we were getting ourselves into as we started on our way.

After cresting the first peak we were welcomed with a break in the fog and some fantastic views.

The second two peaks proved to be an exhausting slushy trudge through a bit of unexpected snow-cover for mid-June.  I don't have many photos of this process as I was mostly focusing on breathing and not dying and everything..

After making the summit on the third peak we were treated to foggy plataeu of cairns leading the way to the fantastic Kjeragbolten.

The payoff view from the small lookout near the Kjeragbolten!

!!WE DID IT!!

For some reason I have an obsession with dangling off the edge of the magnificent cliffs here in the area.  A practice that everyone I have ever hiked with HATES.  It's not exactly a death defying act of courage or anything, but I find it to be an immensely rewarding venture and really amplifies the impact of the freedom allowed at these sites to enjoy the views and experience more fully.
