Photo "Per Day" - Week 2
The Dark Days and the Winter Commute.
This weeks theme is admittedly a bit lazy but should provide another glimpse into my daily life here in Norway. The photos this week are a bit dark and dreary but such is life near the top of the world in January.
My daily commute starts out a bit differently these days than it used to back in the US. Rain or shine, or apparently snow or oddly dipping dots shaped ice pellets?... my day gets started with a quarter mile jaunt through the city to get to my car.
The architecture of this building doesn't quite fit in with the rest so it tends to catch my attention every morning when I turn this corner.
This path is generally nicely lit and weather protected which gives me nice little break before turning the next corner straight into the wind.
Heavy coat, thick pants and good boots required.
However, the nice reward for putting up with the occasionally brutal morning weather is a nice and toasty warm VW Golf tucked nicely away in an underground garage. I happily trudge through the wintery mess knowing that there will be no ice scraping or battery warmers.
Yes Yes.. it needs a good wash. Wintery drives are terrible for keeping a good shiny coat.
I would say that driving conditions are much the same as they exist in the US. Minus the initially frustratingly slow speed limits, the roundabouts, the tunnels, the ultimate right of way to pedestrians, and the MASSIVE amount of pedestrians using and abusing that right. So really the roads look similar and you drive on the same side of the road, but theres a completely different and all together more calm atmosphere while driving.
This was one of the brighter and dryer morning I've seen in January...
Tunnels would certainly have to be the more interesting addition to my daily commute.
Speaking of tunnels... If I'm being honest, the darker ones still give me a bit of anxiety from time to time.
